Tiffany Lighting Tips
Your Tiffany Glass product will add beauty and atmosphere to your home. With proper care and use your Tiffany product will provide enjoyment for generations.
Always unplug any lamp or electrical fixture it from its power source before handling or cleaning. Abrasive cleaners, and harsh polishes and chemicals should never be used on your Tiffany glass product. If furniture polish is used, clean the lamp in a different area to prevent accumulating buildup on its base.
Tiffany Art Glass should be cleaned by wiping with a soft cloth and a lemon oil-based furniture polish. Do not use any product that contains ammonia. The solder used in Tiffany lamps can oxidize, or tarnish, leaving behind a discoloring white film. For removal and prevention of oxidation in the future, apply a slight coating of lemon oil on the solder.
A soft cloth with a mild solution of soapy water or a mild glass cleaner can be used on Tiffany lamps made of beveled or transparent glass. If soapy water is used, the areas of the lamp that were washed must be rinsed thoroughly with a clean cloth dipped in clean water. Porcelain lamps and mica shades should be cleaned with a mild solution of soapy water.
Tiffany lamps in kitchen areas often accumulate layers of grease and dirt, which can reduce the lamp’s quality and be difficult to remove. Mr. Clean Top Job® works well. For best results use a soft cloth and wipe gently. Apply lemon oil-based polish to the Tiffany lampshade to protect it from further grease build-up.
